DEER LAKE, Pa. -- The son of NFL Hall of Fame coach John Madden is buying Muhammad Alis former training camp in Pennsylvania. The camps longtime owner, renowned martial arts instructor George Dillman, sold the rustic hilltop camp in Deer Lake to Mike Madden. The purchase price was not disclosed. Its sinking in. Ill be heartbroken, but its time to move on, Dillman told The Associated Press on Thursday.Mike Madden, a real estate developer, has no immediate plans for the property beyond making sure its history is preserved, said Sandy Montag, John Maddens longtime agent.Hes a huge Muhammad Ali fan. Huge, Montag said. He will preserve the history that is there and supplement that. Muhammad Ali was the greatest of all time and a place like this should be preserved.Ali who died last month, bought the wooded 5-acre tract in 1972 and installed 18 primarily log buildings, including a gym, a dining hall, a mosque, visitors cabins and a horse barn. He trained at Deer Lake until his last fight in 1981, using it to prepare for his major bouts against George Foreman and Joe Frazier. The camp still looks much as it did in Alis day. His desk and typewriter occupy an office near the gym. The dining hall has the original stove and kitchen table. His footprints can be seen on the wood-planked ceilings -- Ali had trod on them while the camp was under construction.Ali sold it in 1997 to Dillman, who trained Ali and once operated it as the Butterfly & Bee Bed and Breakfast. On Thursday, Dillman fondly recalled sparring with Ali and working with him on his foot positioning and hand speed. We took a karate back fist and converted it into an overhand right, he said.Dillman said his son intends to manage a bed and breakfast and continue to run martial arts camps at the site. The Reading Eagle first reported the sale. By just about all accounts, injury has sidelined NRL superstar Johnathan Thurston for two weeks. But it appears someone has forgotten to tell his North Queensland coach Paul Green. The Cowboys mentor hasnt ruled out Thurston making a shock start against Melbourne on Saturday night, in a top-three clash that could decide the minor premiership, despite not officially naming the Test playmaker on Tuesday.Thurston went down with a hamstring injury in last rounds 36-0 romp over Canterbury, prompting calls that the four-time Dally M Medallist would be sidelined for at least a fortnight.Yet, on Tuesday, it was news to Green.According to everyone else, it is two games, Green said. But we have got a pretty good high performance unit and medical staff, we wont be taking any unnecessary risks with him but he will be back sooner rather than later. At this stage, he has got a few days rest which was already planned ... once he comes back from that, we will monitor how he feels. The top-four race was supposed to have been blown wide open by Thurstons injury. The three-time Golden Boot winner was expected to at least miss not only the Storm clash but also next rounds away showdown with the Wests Tigers.ddddddddddddBut asked if Thurston could play against second-placed Melbourne, Green said: We will see how he goes.We will monitor him. Scan results are fairly inconclusive. There is something going on there but its nothing too concerning at the moment. In the meantime, Ray Thompson has been named in the halves for injured No.7 Thurston.Green predicted Queensland State of Origin player Michael Morgan would step up if Thurston was officially ruled out.He liked how Cowboys half Morgan responded after Thurston limped off against the Bulldogs.Morgs grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck last week, Green said. Its about stepping up and taking some ownership of the team.Asked if defending premiers North Queensland were still a one-man band, Green said: I firmly believe we have moved past that.I think we proved that last year.
