The NFL is denying an Associated Press report saying that the league received video five months ago of Ray Rice punching then-fiancee Janay Palmer in a casino hotel elevator. AP reported Wednesday that a law enforcement officer in Atlantic City claims that he sent a video to an executive in April. "We have no knowledge of this," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Wednesday. "We are not aware of anyone in our office who possessed or saw the video before it was made public on Monday. We will look into it." The NFL maintains that they had not seen any video until its release by TMZ on Monday. A source told AP that he cannot confirm that any NFL official viewed the video because there was no further correspondence with the league after April 9. On Tuesday evening, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell appeared on CBS and said that "no one in the NFL, to my knowledge," had seen the video prior to TMZs release. Rice, 27, was initially suspended by the league for two games following the incident. The Baltimore Ravens released the running back on Monday after video of the incident was released and the league suspended Rice indefinitely later in the day. On Wednesday, Goodell sent a memo to the NFLs 32 teams, saying that the league had asked law enforcement, but not the casino, for video. "In the context of a criminal investigation, information obtained outside of law enforcement that has not been tested by prosecutors or by the court system is not necessarily a reliable basis for imposing league discipline," he wrote.
