The World Anti-Doping Agency are disturbed by media reports that claim Kenyan athletes were asked to pay a bribe in return for doping suspensions being reduced. Joy Sakari and Francisca Koki Manunga were given four-year suspensions in November 2015 for anti-doping violations but the pair have claimed they were asked for a $24,000 (£16,500) payment by an Athletics Kenya official for a reduction of sanctions.WADA director general David Howman revealed his concern over the reports and said in a statement: WADA is most disturbed by these reports regarding extortion and bribery at the national level of sport. [They are] eerily similar sounding to what we learnt through the recent Independent Commission investigation into widespread doping in International Athletics.WADA will of course require more detailed information on these allegations from those concerned so that we can determine if this is a matter for us to investigate or for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Ethics Commission as part of its own inquiries. The allegations we have heard this week also illustrate the importance of having a robust, independent National Anti Doping Organization (NADO) fully functional in Kenya at the earliest opportunity. This is a vital step for a country of Kenyas sporting stature to take if it is to effectively protect clean athletes. The claims have been dismissed by Isaac Mwangi, chief executive officer of Kenyan Athletics, although he says the report will be followed up.Its just a fabrication because according to the rules, if you are caught doping, the sanction is very standard, he told Reuters. Its very interesting that people are saying that they are being asked for money because once the decision is heard and determined, its very clear there is no way Athletics Kenya can reduce the suspensions. These are just allegations that we will definitely follow up and get to know what is the motive behind this. Carey Price, the NHLs top goaltender, has recovered from the knee injury that torpedoed his team in 2015-16. But all isnt well in Montreal, where coach Michel Therrien is in fans crosshairs following a blockbuster trade that sent popular defenseman P.K. Subban to Nashville for fellow blueliner Shea Weber.Whats goodA healthy Price makes the Habs a contender, the only reason a team that finished 22nd in the NHL last season has such a respectable title track. And while most pundits think the Predators won the Subban-Weber deal -- at 27, the slick-skating Subban is four years younger than his former Olympic teammate -- Webers take-no-prisoners approach will toughen a team that was too easy to play against last season. The arrival of agitator Andrew Shaw, a tough-checking center who won a Cup with Chicago in 2013, adds additional grit.Whats badDespite the massive overall drop, one thing remains connstant: It still costs a small fortune to attend a game at Centre Bell (113th in affordability).dddddddddddd Just six NHL teams have a higher average ticket price than Montreals $73.67. Still, fans might consider it a bargain just to boo Therrien. The fifth-year coachs inscrutable lineup decisions and prickly demeanor made him unpopular in the mostly French-speaking city even before laffair Subban. Now, hes Public Enemy No. 1, with the Canadiens coaching ranked dead last in the NHL. Clearly, most would rather have seen the man behind the bench moved out instead.Whats newOwner Geoff Molson was hailed as a hero two summers ago, when he overruled general manager Marc Bergevin (according to the Montreal Gazette) and inked Subban to a nine-year contract extension worth $72 million. The deal included a no-trade clause, but Molson didnt stop Bergevin from dealing the flashy defenseman days before it kicked in this July. It was an opportunity for Marc to make our team better, and I think hes done that, Molson said afterward. Well see. Meantime, Molsons standing among the faithful took a massive hit. Ownership dropped 63 spots, while Bang for the Buck, after another playoff-less season, also fell 42.Next: Boston Bruins?| Full rankings ' ' '
